Welcome to Donsca Communications.
Donsca Communications is a personal journey where I can develop and use my photography and writing skills and perhaps work with selected clients. If you see a fit and think I can help you in some small way, just let me know. Oh, for the most part, I prefer working south of the Fraser. If you live in Metro Vancouver, you'll know what that means.
My name is Don Summers. I started a blog back in 2005 to write about my transition from full time biologist to whatever I ended up doing. It's been a wild ride. I now focus on what interests me, and on my work as a photographer and writer through my business activity with Donsca Communications.
You're welcome to follow along if you like. You can also find me @donsca on Twitter, under Donsca on Flickr, or via firstname.lastname@example.org.
No, I wasn't always into photography (there, it's said). However, I did have a serious period with a Pentax Spotmatic in the 1970's. I did some personal landscape work, and even assisted at a studio doing event work for a while. For a variety of reasons, science took over in the late 70's and that led to a dream job as a biologist for over 20 years. Photography took a hiatus.
The journey has included my work as a biologist, self-employment as a business and science writer, and more recently a 4.5 year gig with the Surrey Board of Trade (SBofT) as a Communications Co-ordinator. With the Board of Trade, I was also one of two staff photographers. We shot over 80 events a year, and took photos around the community to illustrate our newspaper and marketing materials (Hint: Flickr account for SBofT; my stuff starts with _DWS). I also do personal work that you'll find on my Flickr feed.
